How To Pet-Proof Your Plumbing

Did you know that nearly one hundred million US households have a pet? That means nearly one million households have potential plumbing issues due to their furry little friends. Yes, your pets can put quite a strain on your plumbing system, but luckily, we know what you can do to help combat this!
Tips To Pet-Proof Your Plumbing
Cover up exposed pipes
Think of it as childproofing your home. Just as with children, there are certain things you need to hide or move. One thing pets love to do is chew on things, so before they have a chance, cover up any exposed pipes or wires.
If your pet ends up biting through a pipe, it can burst and result in quite the repair. It may also mean damage to your home and the neighbors next to you as well.
Keep plenty of water out
Pets love to drink out of the toilet bowl. But if you keep them well-hydrated, they won’t feel the need to head to your bathroom. As a general rule of thumb, check or change your pets water bowl at least twice a day.
Clean and rinse dirty pets outside
When you wash your dirty pup in your bathtub, you are bound to get lots of mud and hair stuck in the drain. This can end up leading to a big clog that no store-bought drain cleaner can fix.
We recommend pre-rinsing your dog outside to remove all the dirt and grime. Then, you can finish cleaning them inside.
Keep any cleaning chemicals out of reach
We all know pets like to snoop. If they end up in your home cleaning supplies, they could get very sick. Make sure all of your cleaners are tucked away and out of reach. And while you’re at it, throw away any cleaners with harsh chemicals anyways. Not only are they harmful to your pet, but they can easily corrode and damage your pipes as well.
