Posted on February 19th, 2019 by BlueMountain

Freezing temperatures are in the forecast for nights this weekend and early next week. Do you know how to protect your pipes and plumbing during periods of extreme cold? Our professional HVAC technicians and plumbers have teamed up with WHSV Channel 3 to share simple tips for protecting your pipes and preventing a mid-winter incident of frozen plumbing.

Overnight Lows May Freeze Your Pipes

As WHSV’s reporter Hannah Hill explains in the video below, frozen pipes can happen during the winter, especially when temperatures remain cold for an extended period of time. If you don’t take proactive steps to protect your home’s plumbing, like having your sink slowly drip warm water, you can find yourself with a big problem. Watch the video to hear what Blue Mountain Plumbing’s very own HVAC Technician, Jonathan Dameron recommends taking as precautionary measures inside of your house to protect your home, valuables and pipes against freezing cold temperatures, including:

  • Opening cabinet doors in your kitchen and bathroom to keep pipes warm
  • Using small space heaters to warm up problem areas around pipes
  • Running the sink faucet that is furthest from where water enters your home at a slow and steady drip with both hot and cold water
  • Knowing where your home’s water shut off valve is in the case of an emergency

How To Avoid Freezing Pipes

Jonathan Dameron, one of Blue Mountain Plumbing, Heating & Cooling’s expert HVAC Technicians, was also featured in WHSV.com’s ‘How To Avoid Freezing Pipes’ segment. Jonathan again stresses the importance of taking precautionary measures to protect your home from the ill-effects of freezing temperatures that can cause frozen pipes. In this video, he highlights simple preparations that can be taken on the exterior of your home than can save you from a major headache, including:

  • Closing any exterior vents to crawl spaces are closed
  • Disconnecting outside hoses
